The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is a stage race, and thus consists of multiple competitions within the race, designated by a set of iconic jerseys, each representing a different aspect of the race. The Yellow Jersey, sponsored by LCL, signifies the overall race leader, while the Green Jersey, backed by Škoda, is awarded to the points classification leader. Climbers will battle for the Polka Dot Jersey, sponsored by E. Leclerc, and the White Jersey, supported by Liv Cycling, is worn by the best young rider.
Following the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is much more exhilarating when you understand how the different classifications work and how they contribute to the final outcome.
The General Classification (GC) is signified by the yellow jersey, or maillot jaune. The overall winner of the race is determined by the total time taken to complete all stages. In the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the rider who wins the general classification, calculated by the lowest cumulative time, is awareded the iconic yellow jersey and is crowned champion of the race.
The Points Classification, represented by the Green Jersey, is awarded to the rider who accumulates the most points during the race. Points are awarded for stage finishes, intermediate sprints, and other designated points throughout the stages.
The Queen of the Mountains classification, symbolized by the Polka Dot Jersey, is determined by points awarded for summit finishes on categorized climbs. Riders earn more points for the higher categorized climbs.
Fun Fact: Climbs are categorized based on their difficulty: HC, 1, 2, 3, or 4. The naming of these categories is a part of the Tour's history and based on the iconic French car, the Citroen 2CV. If the car could get over the climb in 4th gear, that was a Category 4 climb. If it needed to use the second gear it was called a Category 2 and so on. HC climbs (hors category, eng: ‘out of category’) were awarded if the car couldn't make it over the top - A true testament to the riders racing the iconic climbs!
The White Jersey is worn by the best young rider, determined by the overall classification for riders under a certain age.
It's important to note that while the General Classification is the ultimate goal, the other classifications add excitement and strategic elements to the race. Riders and teams often have to make tactical decisions based on their position in these classifications, influencing the overall race dynamics.
